Bloodhound Search Dogs

Bloodhound Search Dogs was incorporated, April of 2004.  Though the Unit is still young, we bring with us many years of experience in training and handling man-trailing Bloodhounds for search and rescue.

We are a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) Washington State corporation.  The Unit is registered with Thurston County Search and Rescue Council, Thurston County Department of Emergency Management, Thurston County Sheriff's Office, and Washington State Emergency Management Division.

We are responsible to these official agencies, the citizens of the State of Washington and ourselves to maintain the highest degree of professionalism in our specialized field of search and rescue with man-trailing Bloodhounds.

We are available for emergency response, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Our services are always, free of charge.  We are deployed by request of an official agency to search for missing or lost persons, human remains detection, and evidence recovery.

Though the schedules in our daily lives are busy, we devote hundreds of hours to working with the canines and in training ourselves.  We attend State SAR Conferences, Mini-SAR Seminars, Canine Training Seminars, and other additional classes such as C.E.R.T. (Citizen Emergency Response Team) (in response to natural or man-made disasters), to keep ourselves current with State and County standards and qualifications that are necessary for us to be Emergency Service Workers in the State of Washington.

We are trained in subjects that pertain to the aspects of search and rescue, such as, Crime Scene Recognition, Forensics, Human Remains Detection, Meth Labs, Alzheimer/Dementia Patients, Incident Command System/NIMS, First Aid/CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, Canine First Aid, Wilderness Navigation, Wilderness Survival, Helicopter Operations, Radio Communications, SAR Management, Fatigue & Sleep Deprivation, SAR Legal Liabilities, SAR Documentation, and Scent Theory.

All of this we do ... "so that others may live".

We attend many public functions and presentations which gives the communities an opportunity to get to know us and learn how the Bloodhounds work as a tool in search and rescue.  We are also certified to present the "Hug-a-Tree" program which teaches kids (and adults) how to keep from getting lost in the woods and what to do if they should become lost.

Each unit member is responsible for his or her own expenses.  Any donations that we receive are applied to the purchase and maintenance of radio communications equipment, navigational tools, safety devices, and informational handouts that are used at public functions and presentations.
